A place that asks nothing from you.
Stonepine is panelled in Swiss pine, the timber alpine builders have used for centuries because it smells good and helps people sleep. The main room opens onto a terrace with nothing in front of it but rock and sky.
Heat the hot tub in the afternoon and you'll be in it as the last light leaves the summits. Cowbells drift up from the valley; that's the loudest it gets.

- The wood-fired hot tub sits on the terrace; it takes about two hours to reach temperature and holds it all evening.
- Interiors are panelled in stone pine, traditionally used in alpine building for its scent and its effect on sleep.
- Boot room with drying rails, plus storage for skis or bikes depending on season.
The Dolomites above Cortina d'Ampezzo, with cable cars, via ferrata and high trails within 25 minutes.
About two hours from Venice airport; a car makes the mountain roads far easier.
On arrival
Terrace first. The scale takes a while to absorb.

Out early on a high trail before the valley warms.

Long lunch, feet up, cowbells somewhere below.
Afternoon
Light the hot tub and let it come up to heat.
Dusk
In the water as alpenglow hits the rock. Then dinner, then stars.
